I’m Sadie!

Welcome to The Handmade Hollow – I’m so glad you’re here! My name is Mercedes but you can call me Sadie. I am proud to call Canada home and live in a small town with my partner, our toddler and our mischievous cat, Bean.

I’m an Illustrator and Pattern Designer, self-published Author of a children’s picture book + several activity books and passionate maker. I have a diploma in the developmental services field as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Leadership. After my daughter was born in early 2020, I needed to shift my career focus and The Handmade Hollow was born.

I have always had a passion for making (often messes) and cannot wait to finally share my creations, tips and tricks with you as I go along. I refer to myself as a “niche-less” maker- I like to do it all! Sewing, gardening, quilting, baking, paper craft, vinyl, SVG making, watercolour, digital art, surface pattern design, polymer clay… if you can name it, I’ve probably done it.

There is something magical about making. I often talk about the concept of creating “everyday magic“. To me, that’s finding the beauty in the mundane. Finding patterns in raindrops as they roll down the windows. Imagining dust motes floating by a sunny window are fairies. Too often as adults we lose our imagination, creativity and ability to see the simple beauty in the world around us. I’m here to help you find it again!

Words to live by. “Let all that you do be done in love”. My goal is to create a space of love and security for anyone who happens to come along. Let’s create some everyday magic.

I am SO glad you are here,

xoxo Sadie.
